  • Where is South Station located?
    South Station is located at 700 Atlantic Avenue, Boston, MA, 02111.
  • When is South Station open?
    The South Station Train Terminal is open year-round, seven days a week from 5:00 am until 12:00 am midnight. In situations where regular train service has been delayed, passengers with tickets are permitted to remain inside the facility.

    South Station Bus Terminal is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Restaurant and shop hours vary.

  • Does South Station have a place to store luggage?
    Train terminal: Teddy Ballgames, located at the front of the station, offers bag storage.

    If you are traveling with Amtrak, they will hold your luggage, just look for the "Red Cap" employees to help you.

    Bus terminal: Greyhound Package Express, located on the 5th floor of the bus terminal, offers luggage storage during business hours. No overnight storage. Items must be picked up 15 minutes prior to closing. Bring a valid government-issued ID.

  • Are rental cars available at South Station?

  • How do I get to South Station?
    If you want to use public transportation for your trip to or from South Station, the MBTA offers a trip planning tool that not only will tell you how to but also includes an estimated time and cost.

    South Station's bus terminal is a two-minute walk from the train terminal. To reach the bus terminal:

    • Exit South Station near the food court, just to the right of Aunt Anne's pretzels.
    • Walk along the platform, parallel to Atlantic Avenue, until you see stairs and/or a ramp.
    • Follow the stairs or ramp to enter the Bus Station.
  • What accommodations are made for visitors with disabilities?
    South Station is accessible to visitors with disabilities. It has public elevators and ramps to help visitors get around without the use of stairs. Please check our directory for exact locations. South Station does not provide wheelchair rental.

    An elevator is located down the corridor from the main information booth. It’s perfect for getting to the Red Line platform for those with physical challenges as well as those with baby strollers.

    Commuter rail and Amtrak platforms are fully accessible, and the bus terminal can be reached from the Track 1 platform.

    The bus terminal offers red cap wheelchair service seven days per week from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. For best results, call ahead to schedule service: 617-790-4304.

  • Are there public restrooms in South Station?
    Train terminal: Public restrooms are located in the Grand Concourse and on the mezzanine above the food court.

    Bus terminal: Public restrooms are located on the third floor.

  • Are pets allowed in the building?
    You may bring your pet in the building and on MBTA and Amtrak trains as long as they are on a leash or in a container or cage. Amtrak permits pets on single trips up to seven hours so long as the cat or dog and its carrier do not exceed 20 pounds total.

    Pets are allowed in the bus terminal on leash or in a carrier. Greyhound and other bus services generally do not permit pets. Service animals are the exception (as they are on Amtrak, too). Please check with your carrier for details.

  • Are bikes allowed in the building?
    You may bring your bike in the building, but you may NOT ride or park it inside. Bikes are permitted on MBTA Commuter Rail trains during off-peak hours. Amtrak permits bicycles to be checked as luggage with advanced reservations, for a fee. See the Amtrak website for more information.

    Bus bike policies vary by carrier. Please check with your carrier prior to boarding.

    Bike parking is available outside South Station along Atlantic Avenue (near the taxi stand).

  • I am bringing a group to/through South Station. What should we do when we’re there?
    Take a tour! The South Station Train Terminal hosts a free tour on the first Saturday of each month at 1pm. Tour meets at the South Station Concierge (by Teddy Ball Games).

  • Can you travel to the Boston Logan International Airport from South Station?
    Yes. The MBTA Silver Line departs from South Station to Logan Airport regularly throughout the day. The Silver Line to Logan Airport is called SL1 and has an airplane icon on the front. To get to the Silver Line, follow the airplane icon on signs in the station.

    Taxis to the airport are available at the taxi stand, located on Atlantic Avenue between the Bus and Train Terminals. Just ask any uniformed official to point you in the right direction.

  • How do I find out about track changes, train information, and other MBTA Commuter Rail related issues?
    Track and train information is clearly posted at in the Grand Concourse. If you need additional assistance, the info desk is staffed daily from 5:45am to 10pm.

    Additionally, the MBTA posts service updates and train information on its Twitter account and website. Please visit MBTA.com or contact MBTA Customer Support at (617) 222-3200 for more information.

  • How do I purchase bus, train, or subway tickets?
    Bus tickets can be purchased at the South Station Bus Terminal, or at the individual carriers’ websites. Click here to find out more about busses that serve South Station.

    To purchase Amtrak tickets, visit the ticket sales desk in the Grand Concourse, or go to Amtrak.com.

    MBTA Commuter Rail tickets may be purchased at a fare vending machine in the Grand Concourse, or using the mTicket app, available in the iPhone App Store or Google Play. Note that tickets purchased on-board may result in an additional $3.00 fee.

    MBTA subway or local bus passes may be purchased at fare vending machines in South Station.

  • I am bringing a group to/through South Station. What should we do when we’re there?

    The South Station Train Terminal offers more than 14 dining options, from fast food in the main concourse, to casual sit-down eateries like Tavitas and Tavern in the Square. The South Station Bus Terminal offers an additional three dining options. Hours and descriptions can be found here.
  • Are meal vouchers or gift cards available?
    South Station does not offer meal vouchers or gift cards. If you’re interested in a gift card to an individual shop or restaurant, please contact them directly.

    Bus terminal: If you lost an item in the bus terminal, head to the Lost & Found office on the second floor of the bus terminal. The office can be reached at 617-790-4304. For items lost on a bus, please contact the bus carrier directly.

  • If I want to take pictures or video in South Station, will I need a permit?
    Anyone is free to take pictures or video inside South Station Train Terminal. However, if you will be using professional equipment like a tripod or if you will be using the content for commercial purposes, you will need to get a permit through the MBTA Business Center.

    Bus terminal policy prohibits taking of photographs or videos within the building without written permission from the building management.

  • I am interested in renting event space in South Station. How can I obtain more information?
    South Station Train Terminal does not currently rent space out for private events.
  • How can I promote my brand through a marketing activation at South Station?   • Does South Station offer free WiFi or payphones? The South Station Train Terminal has a free public WiFi service. The network name is Free_WiFi_at_South_Station.     Payphones are available in the station in the hallway to the left of Barbara's Bookstore.

    Payphones and mobile device charging stations are available in the bus terminal on the third floor near Gate B.
