Company Background

Piano player & salesman Ray Croc was inspired to create McDonalds after selling mixers to a small, successful restaurant, run by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald in San Bernardino, California in 1954. He played off their limited, but high quality menu of burgers, fries and beverages and founded the McDonald’s Corporation in 1955 eventually buying exclusive rights to the name. By 1958 McDonald’s had sold its 100 millionth hamburger.  

Today, McDonald's is the leading global foodservice retailer with over 32,000 local restaurants, with 1.7 million employees serving over 60 million people in 117 countries.

Community Involvement

Giving back has always been a main focus for McDonald’s, from local franchisees sponsoring a youth soccer team to the long-time support of Ronald McDonald House Charities and Olympic sponsorship.
